Office of Personnel Management Director Applauds Those Who Made the 2000 Combined Federal Campaign A Success

Washington DC - During a ceremony today at The White House, the Director of the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Kay Coles James, recognized the accomplishments of volunteers and leaders involved in the 2000 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). James also kicked off the 2001 campaign by reiterating all of the good that comes from the once-yearly campaign when federal employees are asked to donate to their favorite charity.

James thanked all of the participants and presented awards to CFC campaigns and individuals that made the 2000 CFC a success, with 1 million federal donors giving over $223 million to benefit thousands of charities and the people they serve.

The CFC was established in 1961 and is the largest employee based fundraising program in the country. Nearly four million federal military, civilian and postal employees are given the opportunity to contribute to the charities of their choice each year from September 1 to December 15. It is the only campaign authorized to solicit and collect contributions from federal employees in the workplace.

The following are the categories and winners of this year's 2000 National Combined Federal Campaign Award:

James also presented Hero Awards to "CFC Heroes," federal campaign volunteers who exemplify commitment to community and to public service. The winners, representing three areas of federal service - civilian, military, and postal - were selected from a national pool of candidates. The 2001 CFC Heroes Award winners are:
