  • FOREST ROAD CLOSURES AND FUELWOOD PERMITS, Grand Junction, CO (April 29, 2009)- Each winter a Forest Service Special Order is put in effect to protect the road surface on certain Forest roads and to help control maintenance costs and public safety on roads that are still snow-covered and/or saturated road conditions exist.   • Forest Service seeking nominations for Resource Advisory Committee, (Delta, CO) – April 29, 2009 – The Forest Service and local County representatives are seeking people from communities throughout Colorado, elected officials and special interest group representatives as nominees for the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison (GMUG) Resource Advisory Committee (RAC). Application forms must be received at the GMUG Forest’s office ideally by June 15, 2009. (PDF)

  • FOREST ANNOUNCES IMPROVEMENTS TO LOST LAKE CAMPGROUND, Paonia, CO., (April 23, 2009) –The Paonia Ranger District of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests announced that the Lost Lake Campground will be reconstructed this year. (PDF)

  • SEASONAL ROAD CLOSURE DATES CLARIFIED, Delta, CO., (April 13, 2009) – The Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forest (GMUG) released a “decision memo” today that clarifies and specifies core dates for seasonal restrictions on certain Forest Roads for wildlife winter range areas and to protect soft road beds. It also modifies the definition of an “ATV” to include wheeled vehicles that are 50 inches or less in width, regardless of whether the vehicle seat is straddled or seated side-by-side. (PDF)

  • NEW DEPUTY IN TOWN ON THE GMUG!, Delta, CO., (April 13, 2009) –The Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests (GMUG) has welcomed a new Deputy Forest Supervisor. Sherry Hazelhurst began her work on the GMUG two weeks ago and is excited and enthused to be here and back in the West. (PDF)

  • Taylor Pass Huts - FOREST SERVICE PROVIDES OPPORTUNITY TO COMMENT , Delta, CO., (March 23, 2009) – The Gunnison National Forest and White River National Forest are jointly preparing an Environmental Assessment for the construction and authorization of a winter backcountry ski hut near Taylor Pass on the Gunnison Ranger District.   • NORWOOD BIOLOGIST RETIRES, Norwood, CO (March 4, 2009) - After 31 years of service with the Forest Service, Norwood Ranger District Wildlife Biologist Craig Grother has retired. (PDF)

  • GUNNISON BASIN FEDERAL LANDS TRAVEL MANAGEMENT DRAFT EIS RELEASED FOR COMMENT, Delta, CO., (March 6, 2009) – The Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service announced today the release of the Gunnison Basin Travel Management Draft Environmental Impact Statement for a 90-day public review and comment period.   • SEASONAL RESTRICTION ISSUED TO PROTECT ROAD, Montrose, CO., (February 20, 2009) – The Ouray Ranger District has issued a seasonal closure Order for wheeled vehicles on portions of the Owl Creek Pass Road that are part of the groomed snowmobile route system. (PDF)
