Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Regulations

Forest Service Law Enfocrement

The Pike and San Isabel National Forests have many miles of marked trails for your OHV use. The Forest Service is managing the trails in a manner that protects resources and meets the needs of the majority of users. Your cooperation is needed to keep these trails open. We all must try to minimize user conflicts and resource damage. Please be courteous to other riders and hikers on the trail. Indiscriminate riding and further soil damage could cause the Forest to plan and implement more restrictions.

  • OHV Rules and Regulations are set by Colorado State Parks. Please visit their website: http://parks.state.co.us/OHVsandSnowmobiles/OHVProgram/ or phone the main office ((303) 791-1920) for registration information, both in-state and out-of-state, laws and regulations, and other questions regarding use of OHVs.
  • On Forest Service lands, OHVs may be used only on trails or roads designated open. Please refer to the Motor Vehicle Use Map for the area you will be in.
  • It is unlawful to operate an OHV:
    • While under the influence of alcohol or drugs
    • Which creates excessive or unusual smoke
    • Carelessly, recklessly, or without regard for the safety of any person
    • In a manner which unreasonably disturbs the land, wildwife, or vegetative resources
