NRC TO PRESENT RESULTS OF CATAWBA NUCLEAR
POWER PLANT INSPECTION AT ROCK HILL MEETING MAY 31
Printable Version

A team of Nuclear Regulatory Commission inspectors, sent to the Catawba nuclear power plant last week, will present the preliminary results of their inspection at the Rock Hill, S.C. City Hall on Wednesday, May 31st at 1:00 p.m. The Catawba plant is located near York, S.C., and is operated by Duke Energy Corporation.

The inspection was conducted by an Augmented Inspection Team, which is used by the NRC to review more serious events. The Catawba plant AIT looked at the circumstances associated with an unexpected loss of power from offsite sources to both of the facility’s nuclear reactors on Saturday, May 20th. The general details of that event were discussed in a previous NRC news release announcing the inspection (Release No. II-06-031 issued May 23rd). That news release is available on the NRC web site (www.nrc.gov) or from the Region II Office of Public Affairs.

The NRC inspection team will present its results at the May 31st meeting and be available to respond to questions and comments from the public before the close of the meeting.

A report on the inspection will be issued within 30 days, and NRC officials will then determine whether additional actions are required.
