NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT: RIII-96-74 December 17, 1996 CONTACT: Jan Strasma 630/829-9663 Angela Dauginas 630/829-9662 E-mail: opa3@nrc.gov
A meeting between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff and representatives of Wisconsin Electric Power Co., originally scheduled for December 20, has been postponed. The meeting was to discuss the preliminary findings of an operational safety team inspection at the Point Beach Nuclear Power Station.
The inspection by the 10-person NRC team began December 2 at the Point Beach plant near Two Rivers, Wisconsin. It is continuing this week at the utility's corporate offices in Milwaukee.
This week's inspection is covering engineering and design issues. The NRC team has moved to Milwaukee because plant engineering activities are performed by an engineering staff located in the utility's offices there.
These additional engineering inspection activities will delay completion of the inspection. As a result, the meeting to discuss the preliminary findings will be rescheduled for early January. It will be held in the vicinity of the plant and will be open to public observation. A news announcement will be issued when the meeting is scheduled.
