NRC TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING ON NUCLEAR SECURITY
ON SEPT. 1 IN ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting Sept. 1 in Rockville, Md., to discuss security enhancements required of NRC licensees and to present ongoing regulatory efforts in the area of security at commercial nuclear facilities in the U.S.

Senior officials from the agency’s Office of Nuclear Security and Incident Response will discuss security matters related to commercial nuclear facilities, radioactive materials and transportation of nuclear waste. Officials will also discuss security oversight, including force-on-force exercises and inspections, enforcement and the design basis threat. There will be opportunities throughout the meeting for questions and comments from the public.

The NRC holds annual meetings to brief the public on security issues related to nuclear power and related facilities. Additional information on security improvements following the events of 9/11 is available at: http://www.nrc.gov/security/post-911.html.

The meeting will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the agency’s Two White Flint North building, at 11545 Rockville Pike.
