Division of Historical Resources

Office of Cultural and Historical Programs

The Division of Historical Resources is within the Department of State, and is the state agency responsible for promoting the historical, archaeological, museum and folk culture resources in Florida. The Director of the Division of Historical Resources serves as Florida's State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), providing a liaison with the national historic preservation program conducted by the National Park Service.

Preservation

Bureau of Historic Preservation preserves historic sites and properties that reflect the diversity of our past.

Archaeology

Bureau of Archaeological Research helps to identify, preserve and interpret the tangible remains of Florida's cultures.

Museum

Museum of Florida History brings the history of the state alive through exhibits, educational programs and research and collections.

Publications

Publications & Resources educates and assists the community with artistic, historical and cultural programs.

Grants

Grants Services provides funds to assist in the continued enjoyment of Florida's historic sites and historical museums.

Division Seeks Suggestions

The Division of Historical Resources invites comments and suggestions concerning activities, budgets, and priorities for implementing state and federal programs. What key issues should be addressed? What are the technical needs? On which areas of the state or on what type of historic resources should the Division focus? Which activities should be continued, discontinued, or changed? What funding priorities are recommended?
