Michael P. Norris has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in the District of Nebraska for 21 years and currently prosecutes child pornography and sexual predator cases. He additionally serves as the Coordinator for the Project Safe Childhood (PSC) Program within the district.
Since February 2006, when Project Safe Childhood was launched by the United States Department of Justice to protect children from sexual predators and purveyors of child pornography, Mr. Norris has aggressively investigated and prosecuted those offenses
facilitated through the Internet or other electronic media and communication devices.
Mr. Norris has forged partnerships with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to coordinate the investigation and prosecution of child exploitation cases, and to identify and rescue victims. The PSC Coalition, chaired by AUSA Norris, includes representatives from the FBI and 15 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and offices, together with an affiliation of medical professionals and social workers who respond to crimes against children.
AUSA Norris has also trained law enforcement offices and investigators, county
representatives, educators, and parents to raise awareness about the threat of online sexual predators and child pornography and to provide information to parents and youngsters about using the Internet responsibly or to report possible violations. AUSA Norris is also an integral participant in the partnership of the U.S. Attorney’s Office with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force in Nebraska, and with the Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and other national programs that help coordinate investigations and effectively pursue the predators abusing and exploiting our children.
In a recent case, AUSA Norris secured the conviction of a Long Island, New York teacher and elementary school principal for engaging in interstate commerce with the intent to engage in sexual acts with a juvenile. AUSA Norris received Director’s Awards from the Department of Justice in 2002 and 2008 for superior performance as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. |
