Office of Public and Media Affairs
MISSION
The Director of Public and Media Affairs has overall responsibility for
coordinating and initiating all media contacts on a local, national, and
international level.
FUNCTIONS
- Manage the resources of the office.
- Plan, develop, organize, and direct public and media affairs work priorities that are reflective of TTB’s mission.
- Formulate media strategies that accurately, truthfully, and comprehensively address TTB programs and initiatives.
- Serve as the principal advisor to the Administrator and Deputy Administrator regarding public information and media issues.
- Provide analyses and advice regarding public perception of new or revised Bureau initiatives and policies having national or international implications.
- Serve as the principal official Bureau spokesperson addressing the local, national, and international media.
- Serve as the primary contact for the Treasury Public Affairs Office.
- Respond to media inquiries and providing background, statistical information, interviews, and general guidance on media issues relevant to
TTB’s operations.
- Assist film production companies in the gathering of historical and statistical data, arrange interviews and/or demonstrations with the
appropriate subject-matter experts, provide advice and direction to TTB
employees, and facilitate logistical support as necessary.
- Serve as an agency point of contact to the entertainment and media industries in an effort to influence the accurate depiction of TTB employees in film, television, books, magazines, and internet projects.
- Respond to media inquiries or other public inquiries not appropriate for processing under other processes, for example, FOIA/Privacy Act, by
providing background and statistical information or referrals.
- Generate media interest in TTB's programs and initiatives.
- Develop public service announcements and write news releases, fact sheets, speeches, feature articles, radio and television text, and other
materials in support of national initiatives/programs in furtherance of the
Bureau’s mission.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public affairs officials from Federal agencies, national and trade media representatives, and representatives of industries and organizations affected by TTB's regulatory enforcement.
