FBI Director Robert S. Mueller today announced the appointment of Jonathan I. Solomon as Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Miami Field Office.

Currently, Mr. Solomon is assigned as a Special Assistant to the Director. Director Mueller said, "Jon Solomon has provided outstanding counsel on a variety of policy issues, particularly those which are significant to the FBI's Agent population. His wide ranging administrative and investigative experience well suits him to head the Miami Field Office."

Mr. Solomon was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised on Long Island. He attended the State University of New York at Buffalo, graduating in 1980 with a degree in Political Science. Mr. Solomon continued his education attaining his Juris Doctor degree from the State University of Buffalo at New York in 1983. He was admitted to the New York State Bar Association in February 1994.

Mr. Solomon entered on duty as a Special Agent with the FBI in September 1983, and after new agents training school, was assigned to the Kansas City and Philadelphia Field Offices, working a variety of criminal matters. In November 1991, he was promoted to the position of Supervisory Special Agent in the then Administrative Summary Unit, FBIHQ, where he had responsibilities for the adjudication of employee misconduct matters, performance related issues, and inspection matters. In January 1994, Mr. Solomon was promoted to the position of Chief of the FBI's Transfer Unit, FBIHQ; and, in February 1999, he was designated as the Chief of the FBI's Background Investigation Contract Service. In October 1999, Mr. Solomon was designated Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Tampa Field Office. In April 2002, he was promoted to the position of Special Assistant to the Executive Assistant Director for Administration, FBIHQ. In this capacity, he also provided assistance to the FBI Deputy Director.
