Department of Health Announces First Hantavirus Case in NM This Year Case is Santa Fe County Female
(Santa Fe) -- The New Mexico Department of Health announced today that a 25-year-old woman from Santa Fe County is hospitalized in critical condition at University Hospital in Albuquerque with the state’s first case of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome this year. The Department of Health is conducting an environmental investigation to look for places where the woman may have been exposed to the virus. (Read More) (Spanish)

Health Secretary Adds Severe Chronic Pain with Specific Criteria to Medical Cannabis Program
(Santa Fe) – Health Secretary Alfredo Vigil, MD, announced today that the New Mexico Department of Health is adding severe chronic pain to the Department’s Medical Cannabis Program. To qualify, patients must have objective proof of severe chronic pain (X-rays, CT scans, MRIs) and receive two recommendations, one from their primary care physician and one from a specialist consulting on their case. Medical cannabis must be patients’ treatment of last resort because no other medication has provided relief. (Read More) (Spanish)
