                        NOTE TO EDITORS

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has scheduled two meetings this week in
Florida with mangers at two of the state's nuclear power plants. These meetings are open to
observation by the public. NRC officials will be available to answer questions from interested
observers at each meeting's conclusion.

The meetings are scheduled as follows:

                         CRYSTAL RIVER

NRC officials will meet with managers of the Crystal River nuclear power plant at 12:00
noon on Wednesday, August 28 in Conference Room 101 in the plant's Nuclear
Administration Building. The meeting is to discuss Florida Power Corporation's corrective
action program at the Crystal River nuclear plant. The discussions will address operator
performance, regulatory sensitivity, engineering performance, management oversight and
involvement, configuration management, and methods of determining the root causes of
problems.

                           ST. LUCIE

NRC officials will meet with managers of the St. Lucie nuclear power plant at 9:30 a.m.
on Thursday, August 29 in Room 123 at the plant's Training Building. The meeting is being
held to discuss St. Lucie's current plant status, equipment events and upgrades, the status of
the plant's Final Safety Analysis review project, corrective action program improvements, and
its steam generator project status.

Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend, along with members of the public,
for purposes of observation. NRC officials will meet with reporters when the meetings
conclude to answer questions related to the discussions.
