NRC STAFF TO MEET WITH ILLINOIS POWER OFFICIALS
TO DISCUSS SEPT. 5 SHUTDOWN OF CLINTON NUCLEAR PLANT

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet Monday (September 23)
with Illinois Power Company officials to discuss the utility's response to the September 5
shutdown of the Clinton Nuclear Power Station. The facility is near Clinton, Illinois.

The meeting will be at 9 a.m. in the Third Floor Conference Room, NRC Region
III Office, 801 Warrenville Road, Lisle, Illinois. It is open to public observation.

The Clinton plant was shut down because of leakage from a seal on a reactor
circulation pump. The NRC is conducting a special team inspection to review the
circumstances surrounding the shutdown. A second team inspection is underway to
evaluate plant operations more broadly.

The meeting will discuss the utility's evaluation of the events associated with the
shutdown, including its staff's compliance with operating procedures. The utility's
corrective actions will also be covered.
