NRC REGIONAL ADMINISTRATOR TO DISCUSS
DIABLO CANYON AT NEWS CONFERENCE
L. Joe Callan, Regional Administrator of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's
Region IV, will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Pacific Gas
and Electric Co. Community Center at 6588 Ontario Road in San Luis Obispo.
Mr. Callan will discuss a Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance
(SALP) report issued on Sept. 13 on the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, which is
operated by PG&E, and other matters of regulatory concern. The SALP report examines
performance at the two-reactor facility at Avila Beach over a two-year period.
The news conference will follow a meeting at which NRC and PG&E officials
will discuss the SALP report. That meeting, also at the Community Center, will begin at
9 a.m. It will be open to the public for observation; NRC officials will be available later
for questions.
