NRC STAFF PLANS DISCUSSION OF PLANT PERFORMANCE
AT SIEMENS FUEL PLANT IN RICHLAND

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet with officials of the Siemens Power
Corp. commercial nuclear fuel fabrication facility in Richland, Wash., at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June
18, to discuss plant performance in safety and safeguards and current operations.

The parties will discuss a Plant Performance Review conducted by NRC staff that
evaluated plant performance in eight functional areas for the period Feb. 1, 1994, to Jan. 31 of
this year.

The review found that Siemens has ``exhibited a good level of performance with attention
to safety,'' L. Joe Callan, Regional Administrator of NRC Region IV in Arlington, Texas, said.

As a result, NRC inspection efforts will remain at normal levels, with a focus on the
startup and operation of a new dry conversion fuel fabrication facility, Mr. Callan said.

The meeting, at the Siemens facility on Horn Rapids Road, will be open to the public for
observation. NRC officials will be available afterwards for questions.
