NRC SPECIAL INSPECTION TEAM TO PRESENT FINDINGS
OF REVIEW OF MAY 15 SHUTDOWN AT DRESDEN NUCLEAR PLANT

A Nuclear Regulatory Commission special inspection team will
meet Thursday (May 23) with Commonwealth Edison Company officials
to discuss the findings of its review of the circumstances
surrounding the automatic reactor shutdown May 15 at Unit 3 of
the Dresden Nuclear Power Station. The Station is near Morris,
Illinois.

The meeting will be at 1 p.m. in the Training Building at
the Dresden Station. The Dresden Station is located on Dresden
Road just north of Lorenzo Road in Grundy County, Illinois.

NRC Regional Administrator Hubert J. Miller and other
members of the Region III staff will also attend the meeting.

The Unit 3 reactor shut down automatically May 15 when the
flow of water into the reactor was interrupted when a flow
regulating valve failed. A backup cooling water system started
immediately to continue pumping water into the reactor.

There was no danger to the public or plant personnel.

The meeting between the NRC staff and Commonwealth Edison
official will be open to public observation.
