NRC STAFF PLANS DISCUSSION OF PLANT PERFORMANCE
AT ABB COMBUSTION ENGINEERING FUEL PLANT IN HEMATITE, MISSOURI
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a meeting
with officials of the ABB Combustion Engineering, Inc.,
commercial nuclear fuel facility in Hematite, Missouri, at 1:00
p.m. (CDT) on Thursday, May 2, to discuss the plant's performance
in the safety and safeguards program areas and current
operations.
NRC officials will discuss with ABB Combustion Engineering a
Plant Performance Review performed by the agency in which
performance in ten functional areas was reviewed for a period
from January 1994 through December 1995.
The NRC review concludes that "overall the facility
operations were conducted safely" but that additional management
attention is needed to improve the self-assessment program, the
reporting of information to NRC, communication between the site
and corporate office, and the use and quality of procedures.
The meeting is open to interested members of the public and
the news media for purposes of observation.
