Linguists working for the NVTC will be contracted through the FBI's
process. The NVTC and FBI have unique and challenging career opportunities
for Contract Linguists in many major U.S. metropolitan areas. Consideration
is currently being afforded to English-speaking candidates with professional-level
language fluency in Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Bulgarian, Burmese,
Chinese (all dialects), French, German, Hebrew, Indonesian, Kazakh,
Korean, Kurdish, Malay, Malayalam, Pashto, Serbo-Croatian, Somali,
Swahili, Tajik, Tamil, Tigrinya, Turkish, Turkmen, Uigur, Urdu, Uzbek,
and Vietnamese. Contract Linguists primarily perform document-to-document
or audio-to-document translation services. Contract Linguists translate
into English from the target language the speech and/or writings
of non-English speaking individuals and, on occasion, render translations
from English into the target language. Contract Linguists are self-employed
and do not receive benefits.
If you have a language proficiency in a language not listed above,
you are still encouraged to complete an on-line employment questionnaire.
Our language needs are constantly changing, and we will contact you
should your skills become essential.
Contract Linguist Requirements:

The "Apply Now" button will direct you to the Federal Bureau of Investigation employment page. The NVTC utilizes the services of the FBI, our executive agent, to process applications of candidates wishing to provide their services. Currently, the NVTC is only seeking linguist to fill "Contract Linguist" positions and may not offer the position posted by the FBI. You will be asked a series of questions that will determine whether you minimally qualify for the position and you will also be asked to "self asses" your language proficiency. Make sure to complete all portions of the application or it cannot be processed. Lastly, you will be asked who you would prefer to work for. By selecting "NVTC Only" you will be an NVTC applicant and can contact the NVTC recruiter with any questions. All applicants will be required to successfully complete a language proficiency test battery and may also be required to complete a background investigation, which includes a polygraph examination.
Thank you and good luck!
