The NVTC foreign language team consists of both full time staff members and contract linguists who live throughout the United States.

The NVTC relies on the expertise and dedication of its linguist team to produce the best possible translations of documents vital to national security. Linguists working for the NVTC will be contracted through the FBI's process. The NVTC and FBI have unique and challenging career opportunities for Contract Linguists in many major U.S. metropolitan areas. Consideration is currently being afforded to English-speaking candidates with professional-level language fluency in Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Bulgarian, Burmese, Chinese (all dialects), French, German, Hebrew, Indonesian, Kazakh, Korean, Kurdish, Malay, Malayalam, Pashto, Serbo-Croatian, Somali, Swahili, Tajik, Tamil, Tigrinya, Turkish, Turkmen, Uigur, Urdu, Uzbek, and Vietnamese. Contract Linguists primarily perform document-to-document or audio-to-document translation services. Contract Linguists translate into English from the target language the speech and/or writings of non-English speaking individuals and, on occasion, render translations from English into the target language. Contract Linguists are self-employed and do not receive benefits.

If you have a language proficiency in a language not listed above, you are still encouraged to complete an on-line employment questionnaire. Our language needs are constantly changing, and we will contact you should your skills become essential.

Contract Linguist Requirements:

Candidates for contractor positions must be U.S. citizens and reside in the United States.

All candidates must consent to a complete background investigation and polygraph. Only those candidates selected for testing will be contacted to proceed in the selection process.

You will be asked a series of questions that will determine whether you minimally qualify for the position and you will also be asked to "self asses" your language proficiency. Make sure to complete all portions of the application or it cannot be processed. Lastly, you will be asked who you would prefer to work for. By selecting "NVTC Only" you will be an NVTC applicant and can contact the NVTC recruiter with any questions. All applicants will be required to successfully complete a language proficiency test battery and may also be required to complete a background investigation, which includes a polygraph examination.
