Washington, D.C.-- U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Kay Coles James today was recognized by an interagency government committee for her support of Alternative Dispute Resolution programs, which often resolve labor-management disputes and curtail the filing of costly and time-consuming formal grievances.
James has been a strong advocate of Alternative Dispute Resolution to resolve workplace disputes effectively and efficiently. Commenting later, James said: “I wholeheartedly endorse ADR as a very valuable human capital practice that helps carry out the President’s Management Agenda of delivering better and more cost-effective service to the American people.”
Today’s meeting, held in the Lincoln Room of the White House Conference Center, brought together approximately 40 members of the Interagency ADR Working Group Steering Committee. Committee members, all of whom have ADR responsibilities at their respective agencies, provide policy leadership for the Interagency ADR Working Group.
James added that ADR will be a vital component of the human resources system that she and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge are working to build. In January, James hosted the OPM Director’s Award for Outstanding ADR Programs, where model ADR programs were recognized for their time- and money-saving techniques to resolve labor-management disputes.
