OPM's Federal Agency Recruitment Fair in Tucson, Arizona Exceeds Expectations

Washington, D.C. - Today, the U.S. Office of Personnel is partnering with Pima Community College to continue its drive to recruit the best and brightest to federal service, this time at a recruitment fair in Tucson, Arizona. OPM is conducting eleven fairs nationwide to provide opportunities for federal agencies to showcase current vacancies available locally and nationwide and attract qualified candidates for these positions.

"I am committed to creating a federal workforce that draws from every sector of America, one that takes the best from every community," said OPM Director Kay Coles James. "OPM is identifying for federal agencies prospective employees in all corners of society. We must be vigilant, never giving up on our belief that it is America's diversity which makes her the greatest nation on earth. These fairs have provided agencies with a wealth of talent from which they can make their decisions on who to employ."

While agency efforts have been extremely good, OPM is reinforcing its promise to get the word out about the unique opportunity the recruitment fairs have in being able to attract job candidates from every corner of this great nation.

In addition to providing job information and opportunities, the Tucson Recruitment Fair featured computer link-ups to www.usajobs.gov, individual interview areas for career assessments and on-the-spot hiring. The fair also featured workshops on interviewing, resume writing and the application process.

"I am pleased with the progress we are making in creating a federal workforce that is second to none. We must remain vigilant, and actively recruit candidates, so that we are able to compete in today's market and remain an employer of choice," said James.

OPM is encouraging participating agencies to utilize the unique hiring opportunities these fairs present in connecting with a large, qualified, and diverse applicant population. Each agency that participates in the recruitment fairs has been asked to track offers and new hires that come as a result of the fairs.

The recruitment fairs highlight the federal government's many career opportunities, and they showcase the varied fields of interest available to applicants. Future recruitment fairs are scheduled for Denver, Colorado; Las Cruces, New Mexico-El Paso Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Detroit, Michigan; Miami, Florida; San Diego, California; and New York, New York.
