November 25, 1996: Under a new law approved by President Clinton, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management can now restart civil service annuity payments and continue health benefits coverage for children of deceased federal employees who previously lost those benefits because of marriage. OPM can resume benefits if a child's marriage has ended and he or she is still eligible for benefits because of disability or enrollment as a ful-time student while under age 22. [News Release]

November 21, 1996: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) today announced improvements in clerical testing procedures in Washington, DC. Beginning December 2, 1996, applicants will be able to reserve a seat for the test ahead of time, rather than being served on a first-come, first-served basis. [News Release]

November 18, 1996: Due to media demand, copies of charts detailing conversions of political appointees to government career status now are available not only on the Office of Personnel Management Internet Web Homepage, but also by calling the Office of Communications at 606-1800 and requesting a hard copy of the material. OPM Director Jim King said he was pleased to be responsive to public questions related to the proper context for the information in response to many requests made after the material appeared last Friday on FederaLIST, accessible at the OPM Homepage. November 15, 1996: OPM today provided a new on-line information resource for the public and media when it posted FederaLIST on its Web homepage. FederaLIST details the federal Executive Branch positions that are subject to noncompetitive political appointment. A snapshot of data provided by agencies to OPM as of September 1, 1996, these positions encompass agency heads and their immediate subordinates, policy executives and advisors, and aides who report to these officials. November 12, 1996: Employees and annuitants looking for a new health plan for 1997 can now find a wealth of helpful information on the Internet. The address, http://www.opm.gov/insure/html/openseas.htm, provides FEHB customers direct access to health benefits information. Visitors to the site will find this year's improved version of the FEHB Guide that gives cost, benefit, quality and general information about approximately 380 plans. For more detailed information about benefits, individual plan brochures are available. [News Release]

November 11, 1996: Washington, D.C. -- With its focus on the future and its energies directed at expanding labor-management partnership in federal agencies, the National Partnership Council meets Wednesday, November 13, to discuss the Councils 1997 Strategic Action Plan.
