The RXTE Cook Book contains two kinds of step-by-step recipes intended to guide you through the various data reduction and analysis tasks:

  1. End-to-end recipes outline all the steps from start to finish for "overall" tasks like "extracting a light curve from Good Xenon data over a given energy band."

  2. Individual recipes are the building blocks of the end-to-end recipes. They give the steps for tasks like "selecting data by detector and anode."

With this distinction, users who already know how to to create a spectrum, say, can conveniently find out how to do an "extra" step like applying a deadtime correction. Where appropriate, the recipes reference complimentary information in the Getting Started Guide and The ABC of XTE. Next to each is a link to the PostScript version which is also available via anonymous ftp at legacy.gsfc.nasa.gov/xte/doc/cook_book/. (There is also a gzipped tar file cotaining all the individual PostScript files.)
