Coping with Unconfirmed Death: Tips for Caregivers of Children and Teens (2009) (PDF)
Unconfirmed death can be traumatic for children and teens, in part because the lack of certainty about the death makes it difficult for them to complete many of the tasks of normal bereavement. This publication offers caregivers advice on helping children deal with the complex emotions that arise when the death of family member or other important person in a child's life is suspected, but not confirmed.

Caring for Kids: What Parents Need to Know about Sexual Abuse is a consumer-focused resource kit that contains information and fact sheets on a host of issues related to sexual abuse and sexuality, including disclosing abuse, coping with acquaintance rape, navigating the criminal justice system, understanding children's sexual behavior, and teaching children about body safety. Materials for parents, caregivers, and adolescents are included.

Resource Materials for 2009 Grant Applicants
SAMHSA has released Requests for Applications for the National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative. At the request of SAMHSA, materials that may benefit applicants to the initiative have been made available. The complete grant announcement and application instructions are available on the SAMHSA website.

Sometimes Youth Just Want to Be Heard! (2009) (PDF) and Youth Speak! (2009) (PDF) are two booklets that grew out of the participation of youth trauma survivors in an NCTSN meeting on youth and family engagement. In Youth Speak! young people use words and pictures to communicate their experience accessing treatment, working with therapists, and dealing with stigma. Sometimes Youth Just Want to Be Heard! offers young survivors' advice to therapists, parents, and peers. Both resources were developed by the Partnering with Youth and Families Committee of the NCTSN, with leadership from Children's Hospital - Chicago Child Trauma Center

Sibling Death and Childhood Traumatic Grief: Information for Families (2009) (PDF)
The death of someone special can be very difficult and sad for a child or teen, but when it is a sibling who dies, the family faces a unique set of challenges. This publication offers caregivers information about the particular grief reactions that a child may have when a brother or sister dies and provides tips to help the grieving child. An extensive listing of books—organized by age of the intended audience—websites, and videos is included. Sibling Death and Childhood Traumatic Grief also offers self-care advice for caregivers to help them cope with their own grief reactions.

Addressing the Mental Health Problems of Border and Immigrant Youth (2009) (PDF)
This special report helps mental health care providers working in the Mexico-US border region understand the diverse cultural, socioeconomic, environmental, and political factors that daily impact the lives of their clients/patients. It offers guiudance on how to provide culturally competent care while simultaneously addressing families' misconceptions and knowledge gaps about the causes of mental health problems and their treatment.

Addendum to Finding Funding: A Guide to Federal Sources for Child Traumatic Stress and Other Trauma-Focused Initiatives (2008) (PDF)
This addendum highlights additional funding sources within the Department of Education, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Department of Justice that may support National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) programs and initiatives. This addendum provides NCTSN leaders with relevant information and considerations to access funding sources.

Responding to Arson: Two New Resources The NCTSN has developed two fact sheets—
Arson Fires: Tips for Parents on Media Coverage (2009) (PDF) and Parent Guidelines for Helping Children Impacted by Arson & Fires (2009) (PDF) in response to a spate of arsons in Coatsville, Pennsylvania.

impACT - Winter 2009 NCTSN Newsletter (2008) (PDF)
This issue focuses on collaboration throughout the Network. It features descriptions of the eight newly-funded sites, collaborative efforts between Kennedy Krieger Family Center in Baltimore, MD. and the University of Maryland School of Social Work to create a new graduate course, and efforts between the Center for Children & Family Health in Durham, NC and The Herald-Sun to publish opinion-editorials on child mental health and trauma. It also highlights Network members who have been honored in the fields of mental health and trauma, and the NCTSN Terrorism and Disaster Speaker Series. This issue's Affiliate Spotlight describes the affiliate program and what some affiliate sites and professionals are doing to stay involved with the NCTSN.
