Revised Civil Cover Sheet with New Nature of Suit Codes, Effective January 1, 2008

The Statistics Division of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts has modified the Civil Cover Sheet (Form JS 44) to include three new nature of suit codes. The new codes, effective December 1, 2007, will enable courts to limit remote access to electronic files in immigration cases pursuant to Fed. R. Civ. P. 5.2.

The new codes, which will be grouped on the cover sheet under a new heading entitled "Immigration" are::

• 462 - Naturalization Application. Civil complaint for failure to make a determination regarding an application for naturalization, filed under 8 U.S.C. $ 1447, or seeking review of denial of an application for naturalization, filed under 8 U.S.C. $ 1421.
• 463 - Habeas Corpus - Alien Detainees. Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus filed by alien detainee, filed under 28 U.S.C. $2241.
• 465 - Other Immigration Actions. Other immigration-related civil actions, such as failure to adjudicate an application to adjust to permanent resident status. For all three nature of suit codes, the only valid jurisdiction code will be 2, U.S. Defendant.
