Emergency Care Enterprise

The Emergency Care Coordination Center (ECCC), in coordination with the Federal Interagency Committee on Emergency Medical Services (FICEMS), is a major component of an interdepartmental Emergency Care Enterprise (ECE). This enterprise plays a role in improving Federal coordination by establishing formal links between Federal agencies that have undertaken support of the nation’s emergency medical and emergency behavioral health care systems, in both the pre-hospital and hospital environments.

The full spectrum of emergency medical care issues cannot be addressed by the mission of any single Federal agency. Through the collaborative efforts of FICEMS, the ECCC, the Assistant Secretary of Preparedness and Response (ASPR), and the Office of Health Affairs (OHA) at the Department of Homeland Security, the Emergency Care Enterprise promotes improvement in the delivery of emergency medical care in the United States.

FICEMS’ role within the enterprise is to continue existing efforts and to focus on new methods to improve pre-hospital emergency medical care. The ECCC primarily focuses on issues related to in-hospital emergency medical care.

The ECE represents a consistent and collaborative approach to coordinating policies that improve the nation’s overall daily emergency medical care.
