Delany Promoted
Peter J. Delany, Ph.D., LCSW-C, Director of SAMHSA’s Office of Applied Studies (OAS), recently was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral Lower Half in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps.
Rear Admiral Delany was honored at a promotion ceremony, which opened with a welcome by Captain Carol Rest-Mincberg for family, friends, and colleagues, followed by the Presentation of the Colors by the Surgeon General’s Honor Guard.
SAMHSA Acting Administrator Eric B. Broderick, D.D.S., M.P.H., offered opening remarks.
Richard A. Millstein, J.D., gave the keynote speech. A reception followed the presentation program.
A career officer, Rear Admiral Delany has more than 26 years of experience in social work practice, teaching, and public health-based research in behavioral health.
Before being appointed Director of OAS, he worked as a senior health analyst at OAS, where he focused on questions related to service delivery. He also held positions at the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
Rear Admiral Delany received his master’s and doctoral degrees from the Catholic University of America. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the USPHS Outstanding Service Medal, Commendation Medal, and Achievement Medal.
The U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps is an elite team of more than 6,000 full-time, well-trained, highly qualified public health professionals dedicated to delivering the Nation’s public health promotion and disease prevention programs and advancing public health science.
