Monte C. Strait Named Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Kansas City Field Office

FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III, announced the appointment of Monte C. Strait as the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Kansas City Field Office. The Kansas City Field Office is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, with eight resident agencies and covers the entire state of Kansas as well as the western half of Missouri.

Mr. Strait entered on duty with the FBI on March 25, 1974, and served seventeen years in Washington, D.C., in various field and headquarter positions. While assigned to the Washington Field Office, he served on the Terrorism Task Force. He was also the Bombing Investigations Coordinator and a Legal Advisor in the office. From 1986 to 1988, he was an investigator and team leader in conducting investigations overseas regarding terrorist attacks on U.S. nationals abroad.

His assignments at FBI Headquarters included the Legal Counsel and Criminal Investigative Divisions. From 1988 through early 1991, he served in the FBI's Office of Congressional Affairs as liaison to the U.S. Congress regarding FBI criminal, terrorism, and counterintelligence investigations. In May 1991, he transferred to the Kansas City Field Office where he supervised a squad responsible for interstate theft, counterterrorism, foreign counterintelligence, applicants, and civil rights. In 1992, he was assigned supervision of the organized crime/drug squad.

On March 26, 1999, he was appointed as Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Kansas City Field Office. In this assignment, he was responsible for managing all FBI investigative programs, resident agencies, and administrative operations.

On February 3, 2003, Mr. Strait reported to the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division, Clarksburg, West Virginia, as Section Chief of the Programs Development Section. In April 2005, he was selected as the Deputy Assistant Director for the Policy, Administrative and Liaison Branch. In this position, Mr. Strait oversaw CJIS administrative, financial, and support functions; program development matters; Advisory Policy Board matters; CJIS system access issues; the Uniform Crime Reporting program, the development of the Law Enforcement National Data Exchange (commonly known as N DEx), and the CJIS Division Intelligence Group.

Mr. Strait is originally from St Louis. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from George Mason University and is a member of the Virginia Bar.

Mr. Strait is committed to the principle that law enforcement is more effective in addressing crime and national security problems when agencies communicate with each other and find common ground for joint efforts.
