FBI Director Mueller Names William D. Chase as Special Agent in Charge of the Baltimore Field Office

Washington, D.C - FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III today announced the appointment of William D. Chase as Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Baltimore Field Office. The FBI's Baltimore Field Office’s territory encompasses the states of Maryland and Delaware.

Mr. Chase is a native of Haverhill, Massachusetts. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Westfield State College in 1978 and a Juris Doctorate degree from Vermont Law School in l981. After two years of private law practice, Mr. Chase entered on duty with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was assigned to the St. Louis Field Office, where he worked narcotics and organized crime investigations. In l986, Mr. Chase was designated a Supervisory Special Agent and transferred to the Legal Counsel Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. In January of 1991, Mr. Chase was promoted to the position of Special Assistant to the Director and served in this capacity until June of 1993, when he was transferred to the Washington Field Office. While at the Washington Field Office, Mr. Chase was assigned to the criminal branch, where he supervised the Forfeiture Asset Seizure Team (FAST), the Interstate Theft and Car Jacking Squad and the Fugitive Squad. He was also the Principal Legal Advisor for approximately one year.

Mr. Chase was designated Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Boston Field Office on August 28, 1998. In this capacity, Mr. Chase had oversight responsibility for the Organized Crime/Drugs and Violent Crime Programs in the four New England states that comprise the Boston Division (Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island). He also provided supervisory oversight for the Bedford/Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Providence, Rhode Island, Lakeville/Hudson, and the Springfield Resident Agencies.

On July 1, 2003, Mr. Chase was promoted to the position of Special Assistant to the Executive Assistant Director for Law Enforcement Services. In this capacity, Mr. Chase was responsible for issues involving the FBI Academy, the Laboratory Division, the Criminal Justice Information System Division, the Office of International Operations and the Critical Incident Response Group. On June 16, 2004, Director Robert Mueller designated Mr. Chase as the Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Division.
