DIRECTOR ANNOUNCES DEPUTY ASSISTANT DIRECTOR APPOINTMENTS IN NATIONAL SECURITY BRANCH

FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III, today announced the appointment of Michael C. Mines and M. Chris Briese as Deputy Assistant Directors, Directorate of Intelligence.

Mr. Mines began his FBI career in 1980 as a Media Specialist in the Office of Public Affairs. He became an FBI Special Agent in 1983 and has since completed assignments in Minneapolis, Newark, Detroit, and Washington, DC specializing in Violent Crime, Organized Crime, Cyber Crime, White-Collar Crime, and Foreign Counterintelligence. His most recent assignment was Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field Office’s Criminal Division.

Mr. Briese began his career as an FBI Special Agent after graduation from Louisiana State University Law School in August 1987. Since his initial assignment in the Los Angeles Field Office, he has specialized in International Terrorism, Domestic Terrorism, and Foreign Counterintelligence, rising to supervisory ranks in the Minneapolis Division, the WMD Operations Unit, and in the International Terrorism Operations Section II. Most recently, he served as Special Agent in Charge of the Pittsburgh Field Office.

“Michael and Chris bring a wealth of invaluable operational and management experience to the National Security Branch,” said Director Mueller. “Both have proven themselves as effective leaders, and I look forward to working with them in their new roles.”
