Timothy P. Murphy Named Assistant Director of Finance Division and Chief Financial Officer

FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III, announced the appointment of Timothy P. Murphy, an 18-year veteran of the FBI, as Assistant Director of the FBI’s Finance Division. Most recently, Mr. Murphy served as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the FBI’s Cincinnati Division since June 2006. He is a member of the Director's SAC Advisory Committee.

Mr. Murphy entered on duty as a special agent in September 1988. Immediately prior to his assignment to Cincinnati, Mr. Murphy served as Special Assistant to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III. In this position, Mr. Murphy provided counsel to the Director on a variety of policy, budget, and administrative matters. He also assisted in the preparation for the Director's events and meetings and domestic and international travel and ensured the resolution of day to day issues.

Mr. Murphy has also served the FBI as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Washington, D.C. Field Office; as a unit chief and supervisor at FBI Headquarters; as a supervisor in the Tampa, Florida Field Office; and as an investigative agent in the Tampa and Newark, New Jersey offices. During his field assignments Mr. Murphy has worked a variety of investigative matters to include counterterrorism, organized crime/narcotics investigations, as a pilot in the FBI's aviation program, and within the FBI's Special Operations, Technical Operations, Undercover Operations and Surveillance Program.

Prior to entering the FBI, Mr. Murphy worked in the private sector and as a police officer in Michigan. Mr. Murphy earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University in 1983.

Mr. Murphy is married and the father of two children.
