Todd P. Letcher Named Special Agent In Charge,
New York Field Office, Special Operations Division

Washington, D.C. - FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III has appointed Todd P. Letcher, a 20 year FBI veteran, to be Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's New York Field Office, Special Operations Division. In this position, Mr. Letcher will direct the efforts of over 400 special agent, support, and task force personnel who provide strategic operational, investigative , and infrastructure support to the New York Division. He will serve under the direction of Mark J. Mershon, Assistant Director in Charge.

Mr. Letcher entered on duty with the FBI as a special agent in June 1986. After completing New Agents' Training, he was assigned to the Atlanta Field Office where he was involved in a wide cross-section of significant white-collar and violent crime investigations. In addition, he served as a member of the Atlanta Division's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.

In January 1995, Mr. Letcher was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent and transferred to FBI Headquarters where he was initially assigned to the Economic Crimes Unit of the Financial Crimes Section within the Criminal Investigative Division. His responsibilities included oversight of the FBI's initiatives in insurance/securities fraud, bankruptcy fraud, international fraud, and white-collar money laundering, as well as major field office investigations and overall program direction. In late 1995, Mr. Letcher was asked to serve as a Special Assistant to former FBI Director Louis Freeh, and in May 1997, Mr. Letcher joined the Inspection Division. In August 1998, he was promoted to field supervisor as the Supervisory Senior Resident Agent of the Greensboro Resident Agency within the Charlotte Division. There, Mr. Letcher coordinated all the FBI's investigative programs within the 13 county territory.

In February 2000, Mr. Letcher was designated Coordinator of the Southeast Bomb Task Force with responsibility for the FBI Top Ten fugitive Eric Rudolph investigation. In November 2002, he was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office. Upon the capture of Eric Rudolph on May 31, 2003, Mr. Letcher was asked by Director Mueller to oversee the FBI's role in the prosecution of Rudolph in both Birmingham, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia. After completion of this assignment, Mr. Letcher was promoted to his most recent position of Special Assistant to Deputy Director John S. Pistole at FBI Headquarters.

During his 20 year FBI career, Mr. Letcher has received: the Attorney General's Distinguished Service Award (2006), the FBI's Meritorious Service Award (2001), two U.S. Department of Justice Certificates of Merit, and a Letter of Commendation from former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno.

Mr. Letcher holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business. Prior to joining the FBI, he was employed by Exxon Company USA for six years in the Marketing Department.
