Farmer Fraudster Gets 10 Years - II

Mr. Schiff: It’s prison time for an Illinois farmer. At the FBI office in Springfield, Illinois, Special Agent Marshall Stone says the farmer committed bankruptcy fraud.

Mr. Stone: "The defendant made efforts to both physically hide assets such as tractors, a riding mower, a skid loader and a tiller and various farm equipment at properties belonging to other people.”

Mr. Schiff: Stone says the farmer also tried to make that equipment appear to belong to others besides hiding a tractor in an ‘out building.’

Mr. Stone: "An ‘out building’ is basically like a shed or a barn and there were allegations that the defendant actually helped construct the false wall for the purpose of hiding that tractor.”

Mr. Schiff: Stone says others involved in the case helped authorities find the hidden equipment and adds the farmer’s wife was involved.

Mr. Stone: "The wife plead guilty to conspiracy to commit Bankruptcy Fraud and she received two-years probation.”

Mr. Schiff: The farmer got 10 years behind bars for bank and mail fraud and lying to the Department of Agriculture. I’m Neal Schiff of the Bureau, and that’s the FBI’s Closed Case of the Week.”
