DIRECTOR MUELLER APPOINTS DREW S. PARENTI TO HEAD THE FBI'S SACRAMENTO DIVISION

Washington, D.C.-- FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III today announced that Drew S. Parenti, a 21-year veteran FBI agent, has been appointed Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the FBI's Sacramento Field Office. Mr. Parenti will replace Keith Slotter who has been promoted to the position of Deputy Assistant Director of the Training and Development Division.

Since February, 2004, Mr. Parenti has served as a Special Assistant to Director Mueller, where he has provided daily counsel to the Director on a variety of policy and administrative matters. He has also assisted in the preparation for the Director's events and meetings and ensures the resolution of day-to-day issues.

As SAC of Sacramento, he will head an office of nearly 250 employees covering a wide ranging territory from Redding to Bakersfield.

Director Mueller said, "For the past 15 months, I have benefited greatly from Drew's advice and insight on a range of policy and administrative matters. His experience and leadership will serve the Sacramento Division well."

Prior to serving as Special Assistant to the Director, Mr. Parenti was the Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the Houston Division beginning in July, 2002. In his career, Mr. Parenti has been assigned to offices in Phoenix, Miami, and San Diego where he worked a broad range of FBI cases involving Organized Crime/Drug matters and Criminal Intelligence. In between, he was assigned to FBI Headquarters as a Supervisory Special Agent in what was then the Administrative Summary Unit where he had responsibilities for adjudication of employee misconduct, performance related issues, and inspection matters. He also served for two years in Mexico City as the head of the FBI's drug program in Mexico.

Mr. Parenti, who calls California his home, said he is excited to be returning to the Golden State. "I look forward to working with the dedicated men and women of the Sacramento Division and to building on the already excellent working relationships with the FBI's federal, state, and local partners throughout the region," Mr. Parenti said. Mr. Parenti is expected to report to Sacramento on June 20, 2005.
