FBI RESPONDS TO THE FINAL REPORT ON THE 9/11 COMMISSON RECOMMENDATIONS

Washington, D.C. - FBI Assistant Director John Miller today issued the following statement regarding the 9/11 Commission Final Report:

"In the past four years since September 11th, the pace of the FBI's change has been sweeping and continuous. The FBI has institutionalized our counterterrorism posture by making counterterrorism our overriding priority, shifting resources, and executing an intelligence-driven coordinated national strategy. We have changed the way we measure performance of agents and programs to encourage intelligence work and information sharing. We created the Directorate of Intelligence to drive and coordinate intelligence work across the FBI and the US Intelligence Community, built a cadre of well-qualified analysts, established a dedicated intelligence element in every FBI field office, and increased both intelligence production and the development of counterterrorism sources. We agree that more remains to be done, and we have created the National Security Branch, which is implementing fundamental changes across our business practices and operational missions that will not only maintain, but accelerate the pace of our transformation.

The FBI is responsive to the leadership of the DNI and has been operating in coordination with the Intelligence Community, playing a critical role in the National Counterterrorism Center and conducting terrorism finance investigations."
