The Federal Bureau of Investigation today placed Ruben Hernandez Martinez, a suspected serial rapist, on its "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list. He is being sought for his alleged participation in a series of armed home invasions and sexual assaults. Martinez should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.

It is alleged that in 1997 and 1998, while working as a construction laborer in Nashville, Tennessee, Martinez was responsible for a series of home invasions and sexual assaults.

On May 29, 1998, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Davidson County, Tennessee, charged Martinez with five counts of aggravated rape, one count of aggravated burglary, and one count of failure to appear. Then, on June 5, 1998, a federal arrest warrant was issued in the United States District Court, Middle District of Tennessee, Nashville, Tennessee, charging Martinez with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Martinez is described as a White (Hispanic) male, 5'7", 145 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was born on October 31, 1967, in Mexico. He may have a goatee or moustache and shoulder-length hair. Martinez is fluent in both English and Spanish, and has ties to Houston, Texas and Rio Bravo, Mexico.

Ruben Hernandez Martinez is a resident alien and has a valid green card and social security card. He may be working in the construction field as a painter, drywall installer, or as a landscaper. He uses the following aliases: Ruben Martinez and Kuben Hernandez Martinez.

Ruben Hernandez Martinez is the 472nd person to be placed on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list, which was established in 1950. Since then, 442 fugitives have been apprehended or located, 143 of them as a result of citizen cooperation.

A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for any information leading directly to the arrest of Ruben Hernandez Martinez. Individuals with information concerning Martinez should take no action themselves, but should immediately contact the nearest office of the FBI or local law enforcement agency. For any possible sighting outside of the United States, contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Additional information regarding Ruben Hernandez Martinez, including his wanted poster, is available on the FBI's Internet Home Page at http://www.fbi.gov.
