Marine Corps University Foundation Honors FBI Director Mueller with
2008 Semper Fidelis Award

At an evening ceremony, General Carl Mundy, 30th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, announced FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III, as the recipient of the Marine Corps University Foundation’s 2008 Semper Fidelis Award. Director Mueller began his public service in 1967 when he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served as an officer for three years, leading a rifle platoon of the Third Marine Division in Vietnam. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star, two Navy Commendation Medals, the Purple Heart, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

"I count my decision to become a Marine as one of the best decisions I have ever made…a decision that has had one of the most lasting impacts on my life,” said Director Mueller. “I am proud to be among such a distinguished group of public servants to receive the Semper Fidelis Award and thank the Marine Corps University Foundation for this honor.”

The Marine Corps University Foundation presented its first Semper Fidelis Award in 1985. Each year the award recognizes a distinguished American leader whose commitment to personal and professional excellence embodies those qualities of leadership and character uniquely associated with the Marine Corps. Director Mueller joins a distinguished list of honorees including former Georgia Governor and Senator Zell Miller, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Vice President Richard Cheney, and former President George H. W. Bush.
