2008 Director’s Community Leadership Awards

San Antonio, Texas
Dr. Nancy Kellogg

Division Chief for Child Pediatrics,
University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio

2008 Director’s Community Leadership Awards

Dr. Nancy Kellogg, Division Chief for Child Pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), has demonstrated a strong compassion and dedication to the safety and welfare of children who have been victims of child abuse.

During the past 20 years, Dr. Kellogg has immersed herself in the evaluation of child physical and sexual abuse, where she has dealt with more than 10,000 cases. She has published numerous research articles in the emerging field of child abuse pediatrics, and she is a well-known speaker and presenter. Dr. Kellogg has played a major part in making child abuse pediatrics a recognized subspecialty in medical school.

In May, 2006, Dr. Kellogg and a team of colleagues, including two pediatric care doctors, a nurse, a director, a social worker, and a community outreach specialist, opened a brand new center called The Center for Miracles. The center, designed for the purpose of caring for children of neglect and physical abuse, is a healing place for children and their families. Being a referral-based, child abuse assessment center, the center provides comprehensive medical assessments, diagnosis, and treatment for victims of child abuse and neglect.

Dr. Kellogg is also currently the Director of ChildSafe (formerly known as the Alamo Children’s Advocacy Center). She also acts as a consultant to Child Protective Services, helping overburdened caseworkers make decisions in suspected abuse cases. On average, Dr. Kellogg reviews seven cases on a daily basis, dividing her time among the three programs going from clinic to clinic. Dr. Kellogg has also played a key role in a number of high-profile FBI San Antonio investigations.
