Tapestri Immigrant & Refugee Coalition is a non-governmental organization located in Atlanta that provides outreach, education, and direct services for victims of human trafficking. Tapestri is dedicated to the prevention of human trafficking and provides assistance to both victims of sexual exploitation and labor exploitation. Atlanta FBI established a collaborative relationship with Tapestri approximately nine years ago.
Tapestri, Inc., began as a coalition of advocates working on behalf of refugee and immigrant women who were victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. In October 2002, Tapestri became its own independent organization, providing services to the refugee and immigrant population through various programs.
Tapestri has worked to raise awareness and educate the greater Atlanta community about human trafficking by participating in local task forces composed of federal, state, and local law enforcement, and by conducting and participating in educational seminars and training conferences throughout the country. Over the years, Tapestri has greatly assisted Atlanta FBI by identifying trafficking victims, serving as a foreign language and cultural resource, securing emergency housing for Atlanta victims and providing medical care and psychological counseling. Because the assistance Tapestri provides stabilizes the victims of crimes, it is crucial to the successful investigation and prosecution of trafficking cases. Over the years, Tapestri has offered assistance to victims in over 25 Atlanta human trafficking investigations. |
