ETA REGIONAL INFORMATION ALERT NO. 039-09

ORIGINATING OFFICE:  Region 5

SUBJECT:  Announcement of Technical Assistance and Training – Heartland Conference, March 31 – April 2, 2009 in Kansas City

PROGRAMS: All Programs

1. Purpose.  To announce ETA Regional Office-sponsored technical assistance and training opportunities offered at the Heartland Conference: Preparing the Workforce for the Changing Midwest Economy, March 31-April 2, 2009.

4. Background.  Today’s economy presents the workforce and economic development world with challenges it has not faced in decades.  The Heartland Conference will present a wide array of strategies designed to meet and overcome today’s challenges and position our systems for what may come tomorrow. 

5. Substance.   The event will provide a forum for partnering and networking with leaders from all facets of workforce and economic development. Workshop tracks will include:

  • Re-engineering Reemployment Services
  • Using data to support decision-making and find solutions
  • Transition strategies for a new economy
  • Midwest Innovation Initiative
  • Youth Programming – including the expanded Summer program

The agenda includes a substantial focus on implementing America’s Recovery and Reinvestment Act, with presentation and discussion from the ETA implementation team.

6. Action.   Program administrators are requested to share this Information Alert with appropriate staff and other agencies, support participation, and encourage all interested parties to register for the conference.
