The Clean Air Act
The Clean Air Act, passed in 1970, regulates air emissions and authorizes the U.S. EPA to establish National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) to protect public health and the environment. It was amended in 1977 and 1990 to meet unaddressed problems such as acid rain, ground-level ozone, stratospheric ozone depletion, and air toxics.
