In an effort to improve the quality and quantity
of calibration and validation data sets,
the OceanColor Project offers several support
services to field investigators. These services
include:
For calibration and validation purposes,
in situ measurements should be made as close
to the sensor over-flight time as is possible.
To aid investigators in determining when
sampling should occur, the OceanColor Project
offers over-flight predictions for all operational
ocean color remote sensors.
To support on-going cruise activities, the
OceanColor project can provide near real-time
images (email of FTP images in png format. HDF files can also be made available via FTP ) from
MODIS (currently Aqua ONLY).
Level-2 standard products are available for MODIS-Aqua.
These images may provide useful information in cruise planning both
prior to and during oceanographic cruises.
In order to provide users with the ability to create and modify image support requests interactively,
registration is necessary for this service.
SeaWiFS has the capability to record high
resolution data on-board the satellite.
This is useful for collecting high resolution
data in areas of the world not adequately
covered by HRPT ground stations. The
OceanColor project acts as liason between the
scientific community and SeaWiFS Mission
Operations for the scheduling of on-board
LAC.
