Michael A. Morehart Named Special Agent In Charge, Washington Field Office, Administrative Division

Washington, D.C. – FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III has appointed Michael F. A. Morehart , a 20 year FBI veteran, to be Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Washington D.C. Field Office, Administrative Division. In this position, Mr. Morehart will support t he mission to aggressively provide human, technical, and capital asset resources to all entities supporting the priorities of the FBI as set by the Director. His duties will include direct oversight of budget, personnel, hiring, facilities management, and protective detail for the FBI Director and Attorney General.

Mr. Morehart entered on duty with the FBI as a Special Agent on October 6, 1986. After completing New Agents' Training he was assigned to the Columbia Division, and in February 1992 he was transferred to the Houston Division. In September 1995, he was promoted to the position of Supervisor in the Audit Unit, Audit, Evaluation and Analysis Section, Inspection Division, FBI Headquarters. In February 1998, he was transferred to the Memphis Division where he served as the supervisor of a white collar crime squad.

In February 2001, Mr. Morehart was promoted to the position of Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the El Paso Division. During the course of assignment in El Paso, Mr. Morehart was responsible forCounterterrorism/Counterintelligence Investigative Programs, as well as the Violent Crimes, Public Corruption, Civil Rights, and White Collar Crimes. In March 2004, Mr. Morehart was promoted to his most recent position of Section Chief of the Terrorist Financing Operations Section, Counterterrorism Division, FBI.

Mr. Morehart was born on April 3, 1960, in Wurzburg, West Germany. He grew up in Petersburg, Virginia, where he received his early education. In 1980, he earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration, Cum Laude, from John Tyler Community College. In 1983, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. In 1986, he became a Certified Public Accountant. He served as a Senior Auditor for the Commonwealth of Virginia, Auditor of Public Accounts during the period May 1984 through October 1986.
