Jose Maria Cuevas-Gonzalez is wanted for several crimes in Virginia. On July 9, 2008, law enforcement received a call that two individuals had been shot while sitting in a vehicle located in Boyce, Virginia. One male victim was shot three times in the torso and died from these injuries. The second male victim was shot once and was found lying on the ground near the vehicle, a Cadillac Escalade. This victim was transported to the hospital and survived his injuries. Through investigation, it was determined that Cuevas-Gonzalez allegedly shot the two men. Reportedly, Cuevas-Gonzalez' vehicle was observed fleeing the area of the shooting.
On July 11, 2008, an arrest warrant was issued for Jose Maria Cuevas-Gonzalez in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Clarke County, Virginia, for attempted murder. On July 18, 2008, arrest warrants were also issued for: first degree murder; use of a firearm during the commission of a felony (murder); and possessing a gun by an unlawful alien. Additionally, on October 2, 2008, Cuevas-Gonzalez was subsequently charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in a federal arrest warrant issued by the United States District Court, Western District of Virginia.
