2009AA UMLS Metathesaurus: New and Updated Sources - Expanded Representation Information

General Information:

What's New to the Metathesaurus

For 2009AA, there are 3 new sources (ICD10PCS, ICF, ICF-CY), 2 new translation sources (MSHLAV, KCD5), 31 updated sources, and 17 updated translation sources.

ICD10PCS, the ICD-10 Procedure Coding System, is a system of medical classification used for procedural codes. It is a successor to Volume 3 of ICD-9-CM.

ICF, The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, is a classification of health and health-related domains. These domains are classified from body, individual and societal perspectives by means of two lists: a list of body functions and structure, and a list of domains of activity and participation. ICF is useful to understand and measure health outcomes. It can be used in clinical settings, health services or surveys at the individual or population level.

ICF-CY, The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health for Children and Youth is a derived version of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) designed to record characteristics of the developing child and the influence of environments surrounding the child. This derived version of the ICF can be used by providers, consumers and all those concerned with the health, education, and well being of children and youth.

KCD5, Korean Standard Classification of Disease, is a Korean version of ICD10, published by the Korean National Health Information Task Force.

MSHLAV is Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), Latvian Edition.

As translation sources are updated, we continue to attempt to represent them as closely as possible to the English version. This includes using the same term types and creating the same relationships in the translation source. If there are concepts missing from the translation source that would cause gaps in the hierarchy, those gaps are filled in with the English language version of the missing concept.

SAB: ICNP1_1

1) New attribute name (ATN):
      ICNP_TYPE
      STATUS

Discussion: STATUS shows if a code is active (current) or inactive (obsolete/deprecated). Currently, all codes are "A".

ICNP_TYPE shows if a code is a Diagnosis/Outcome (DC), an Intervention (IC), or Primitive (7-axes: A, C, F, J, L, M, T).

2) It is important to note that this source does not "look like" versions of ICNP that can be browsed on the web or are described in the book. It is organized differently. Also, the axis information is passive information (assigned to the ICNP_TYPE attribute) and is not used to build a hierarchy.
