Working with the FBI Laboratory

The WMD Directorate routinely works with the Laboratory Division, as well as the Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG).

Within the FBI Lab, the Hazardous Materials Response Unit (HMRU) offers experience and expertise to:

  • Provide WMD operational and technical-level training to FBI field personnel;
  • Research and develop in the area of WMD detection, identification, and response;
  • Provide and coordinate laboratory and field forensic, scientific, and technical response to cases involving WMD; and
  • Provide WMD technical information and advice to the FBI and other federal, state, and local agencies.
