Karen Perdue is the Associate Vice President for Health at the University of Alaska. She was appointed as a Commissioner in May 2007.

From 1994 to 2001, Ms. Perdue, served as Alaska's commissioner of Health and Social Services. She served ten years as deputy commissioner of the Department of Health and Social Services and directed the Division of Community Development at Community and Regional Affairs in the early 1980s.

Ms. Perdue serves on the Providence Alaska Regional Advisory Board and the board of the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital Foundation. She was appointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to the National Advisory Committee on Rural Health and Human Services. She serves as the U.S. representative on Sustainable Development for the Arctic Council, an eight-member arctic nation forum.

She led the University of Alaska's commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the writing of the State's Constitution, including the production of an Emmy-award winning documentary for public television, The 49th Star.
