FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- January 30, 2009 -- Simbree Energy Foods of Seattle, WA is recalling Simbree ® Oat Almond Pistash, Simbree® Almond Pistachio Energy Bites and Simbree® Oat Bites with Peanuts, Almonds and Pistachios/ Bouchées d’avoine aux arachides, amandes et pistaches because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.  The Simbree ® Oat Almond Pistash, Simbree® Almond Pistachio Energy Bites and Simbree® Oat Bites with Peanuts, Almonds and Pistachios/ Bouchées d’avoine aux arachides, amandes et pistaches were manufactured using peanut butter recalled by Peanut Corporation of American because it has the potential to be contaminated with SalmonellaSalmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. 

Simbree® Oat Almond Pistash, Simbree® Almond Pistachio Energy Bites and Simbree® Oat Bites with Peanuts, Almonds and Pistachios/ Bouchées d’avoine aux arachides, amandes et pistaches were distributed throughout the Unites States and Canada to grocery stores, bike shops, mail order and direct delivery.

Simbree® Oat Almond Pistash, Simbree® Almond Pistachio Energy Bites and Simbree® Oat Bites with Peanuts, Almonds and Pistachios/ Bouchées d’avoine aux arachides, amandes et pistaches are sold in 6oz/170g plastic clear pouches, pre-printed bags and 15oz/426g clear plastic canisters.  The expiration dates range from 02/2009-02/2010.  UPC codes are found on US and Canadian individual packages and Canadian cases only. 

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products.  The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut product received was manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America.  Simbree Energy Foods has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.
