FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- April 8, 2009 -- Powers Candy and Nut Company of Spokane, Washington is voluntarily recalling 16,000 pounds of Powers Snack Time Pistachios, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The pistachios were packaged using pistachios recalled by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Samonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Powers Snack Time Pistachios were distributed nationwide through convenience and retail grocery stores.

The pistachios were packaged in blue plastic bags with a clear window and the “POWERS SNACK TIME HIGH ENERGY SNACKS Pistachios” label.
