Mixed Nuts Inc. Expands Voluntary Recall to Include "Premium Orchard and Snack’rs Trail Mix Line" Because of Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 6, 2009, Mixed Nuts Inc., Pacoima, CA is voluntarily recalling all of its packaged "Premium Orchard” and “Snack’rs” Trail mix sold on or prior to Jan/27/2009 because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.  The products were manufactured using peanuts recalled by Peanut Corporation of America Plainview, Texas facility because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The original recall consisted of Rainbow trail mix.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products.

The potential for contamination was noted when a nationwide recall was announced by the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA)'s Blakely and Texas plants, one of the peanut suppliers for "Premium Orchard” and “Snack’rs” trail mix line.

The recalled "Premium Orchard” and “Snack’rs” trail mix line was distributed in retail stores: Save Mart Super Markets, Ca, Woodman’s Markets, WI, Smart and Final CA, Jons Market Place, CA.

The product comes in Stand up plastic zip lock bags packaged 6oz., 24oz. and 28oz. under “Premium Orchard” and “Snack’rs” brand. All recalled product was sold on or before 1/27/09.

Consumers who have any of these items at home are to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For consumers who have additional questions, they can contact the company at 818-897-6887 M-F 8:00-4:00 PST.
