FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --Boston, GA -- February 03, 2009, Dillon Candy Company is voluntarily recalling its 3 oz. peanut rolls as a precaution due to the recall expansion of Peanut Corporation of America which includes oil roasted, salted peanuts processed at its Blakely, GA facility since Jan 01, 2007. PCA is the focus of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation into potential salmonella contamination of peanuts from its Blakely, GA facility.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. The Peanut Rolls were distributed nationally through retail stores and mail
orders.

No Illnesses have been reported to date in connection to Dillon’s 3 oz. Peanut Roll. No other products sold by the Company, including its peanut brittle, are made with peanuts or peanut ingredients from Peanut Corporation of America and therefore are not affected by this recall.
Dillon Candy Company’s peanut rolls are no longer manufactured with peanuts supplied by Peanut Corporation of America.
Consumers may return recalled peanut rolls to Dillon Candy Company for a refund or destroy them. Consumers with questions may contact Dillon Candy Company at 800-382-8338, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., EST, M-F.
